On 2 June 1979, Syed Jalaluddin lost his life while trying to rescue a five-year-old girl from the Credit River. Mr. Jalaluddin and a group of friends and relatives had been fishing near a dam when the child, playing nearby, fell into the water. At once he jumped in fully clothed and managed to hold her above the surface. But when the strong current began to carry them downstream, the child was handed over to another man, and she was brought safely to shore. Mr. Jalaluddin lost his battle with the current and was drowned.
