A man was playing a fish in New Brunswick's Magaguadavic River on 17 October 1984, when he inadvertently stepped into deep water. His chest-waders filled and he was unable to gain secure footing in shallower water. Ice-cold water and the strong current quickly sapped his strength and he lost consciousness. Mr. Hudson, familiar with that part of the river, without thought for his own safety, dove in and swam to where the man had been seen last. Diving, he quickly found the victim and began to pull him to shore. Hampered by the current and the drag of the man's waders, he persisted until others could assist. The man recovered after mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
