Medal of Bravery
On November 13, 1971, Henry Charles Hudson, who a year later lost his own life, was instrumental in the rescue of the passengers on a snowmobile and sleigh which plunged through the ice of the Poplar River in Manitoba. Henry Hudson was driving the vehicle across the lake when the ice gave way. Mr. Hudson managed to jump clear but the others were thrown into the water. He promptly jumped in to assist them and all but one succeeded in pulling themselves up onto the ice. A thirteen-year-old boy, however, sank below the surface and Mr. Hudson submerged, located the teenager and managed to shove him out into the hands of others. It is likely that the youth owes his life to the determined efforts of his rescuer.
