Scott Ilingsworth Hopper, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
On January 26, 1969, Scott Hopper, who was twelve years old at the time, rescued another child from drowning near the Government Docks in Sarnia, Ontario. Three children were playing together near the channel when one of them, a little girl, wandered out onto the frozen surface and the ice gave way under her weight. In attempting to reach the child, her ten-year-old brother also fell through the ice. Scott Hopper found a metal rod along the shore and proceeding out some way on the ice, he extended the rod which his young friend was able to grasp and so pulled himself from the water. Had it not been for young Scott Hopper's timely and courageous action, the other boy like his little sister would almost certainly have been drowned.
