During the afternoon of 10 September 1981, eight-year-old Robyn Lee Hart saved a thirteen-year-old boy who was in danger of drowning. Robyn was walking with friends when they found a bottle of liquor lying in the grass near a local hotel and, in an act of bravado, one of them ingested a large quantity of alcohol. While crossing the Quesnel River the youth staggered and fell, hit his head on the rocks as he entered the water, and was soon carried downstream by the current. Though an inexperienced swimmer with no life-saving training, Robyn went at once to his assistance. He dog- paddled out to his friend, grabbed him as he sank below the surface and with much difficulty held his head above water. He was finally able to pull the victim to shore. The quick action of young Robyn prevented a tragedy.
