Medal of Bravery
Mrs. Amaral and Mrs. Hardy rescued a woman who was being stabbed at Kitchigami Camp near Goderich, Ontario on August 7, 1991. Hearing screams during the night, Mrs. Hardy ran towards a campsite and found a man stabbing a woman. Risking injury herself, Mrs. Amaral was standing between the attacker and the victim, attempting to push the assailant away. Mrs. Hardy tried to pull the enraged man off the victim, then managed to free the woman from his grasp and helped her run to safety. Mrs. Amaral then ensured that the man did not follow the women. The victim's wounds were treated until an ambulance arrived and police took the man into custody.
