On the morning of 5 July 1982, Doris Halkett awoke to find her house on fire. She rushed outside to discover that two of the three occupants were safe; a five-year-old boy remained inside. Although the fire was spreading rapidly Mrs. Halkett ran back inside, feeling her way through blinding smoke to the room where he was trapped. She found him laying of the floor, picked him up, and carried him out. The child suffered from smoke inhalation but quickly recovered.
