Medal of Bravery
On October 7, 1972, Constables Yves Audet, Yves Beaudoin and Michel Guilbault, of the National Harbours Board Police in Montreal together risked their lives to prevent a distraught man from carrying out a suicide threat. The would-be-suicide had scrambled up the girders of the Jacques-Cartier Bridge high above the St. Lawrence River. In a strong wind, Constable Guilbault ascended the rain swept structure to within a few feet of the victim and tried to reason with him. Meantime, the other two officers arrived on the scene. Constable Beaudoin worked his way to a position back of the man and was able to take him by surprise. The victim, resisting and kicking frantically, was finally overpowered. All were obliged to remain in this precarious position until the fire service arrived with an aerial ladder.
