On 20 December 1979, Roger Guay rescued an eight-year-old girl form drowning. While tending to a patient on the sixth floor of the Manoir de Verdun in the province of Quebec, Mr. Guay saw through a window a young girl playing on the thin ice covering the river behind the building. Moments later she was floundering in the water. At once he seized a blanket, raced down the stairs and dashed to the river's edge. Inching his way over the ice, he reached the child and threw her one end of the blanket to pull her to safety. Because of his prompt life-saving action little the little girl was soon reunited with her parents.
