At noon on 17 March 1980, Glynn Richard Green saved a ten-year-old boy who had fallen into the Welland River. When driving across the bridge, Mr. Green was alerted to the cries of the boy. Without thought of danger to himself, he inched his way over the thin ice. On reaching the child he took off his jacket and used it to pull him to safety. Because of Mr. Green's daring rescue a young life was spared.
