On August 21, 1994, at Pointe-à-Bouleaux, Northumberland Strait, New Brunswick, Mr. Gould rescued a boy whose inflatable boat was being swept away by a windstorm. Hearing the boy scream for help, Mr. Gould immediately rushed in and began swimming through the rough waters as the high winds pushed the craft even farther adrift. He eventually reached the youth, grabbed onto the boat, and began swimming back to shore, pushing the boat against the wind and the waves for more than 400 metres. Almost an hour after Mr. Gould went into the water, the two landed safely on the beach.
