During the morning of August 22, 1984, Gordon Giesbrecht risked his life to save the two occupants of a small plane that had crashed immediately after take-off. As the plane burst into flames, Mr. Giesbrecht ran to the scene, quickly helping one victim out of the danger area. As the rescuer returned for the pilot, the force of an explosion drove him back. Despite the flames, he returned to the wreck, crawled inside, freed the pilot whose feet were wedged under the seat and dragged him to safety.
