Rita Gagnon, M.B.
Médaille de la bravoure
In Montreal, on 4 March 1977, Rita Gagnon, a school crossing guard, suffered multiple injuries while removing three children from the path of an oncoming car. Mrs. Gagnon saw a motorist losing control of his car which skidded on the wet road towards the children. As she was pushing them to the sidewalk, she and some of the children were hit and flung to the ground. After the accident, Mrs. Gagnon and two of the children were taken to hospital, where they were treated for their injuries. Through her selfless action Mrs. Gagnon almost certainly averted a very serious accident.
