Medal of Bravery
On the afternoon of 30 July 1985, Bernard Duke, Dale Furlotte and Yvan Léger pulled a man from a flaming wreck after a head-on collision. The doors of the vehicle were pinned shut, compounding the difficulty of extricating the victim. Despite the strong odour of gasoline and the sizzling sound from the motor warning of an impending explosion, they managed to force open the driver's door and unbuckle his seat-belt. The man had just been pulled from the wreck when the gas tank exploded, knocking the rescuers back. Undeterred by the overpowering heat, they returned to the victim and moved him a safe distance from the inferno while smothering the flames on his clothes and hair.
