Star of Courage
Capt. Gary Fulton and OCdt. Robert Hansen of CFB Moose Jaw lost their lives when their Tutor jet crashed during a training mission at Regina Airport on 31 May 1976. Shortly after take off a bird was drawn into the engine. Immediate engine failure resulted, and the pilots elected to divert the aircraft back to the airstrip rather than eject and abandon it over the city. There was insufficient altitude for a safe landing, and both officers were fatally injured when the aircraft crashed a short distance from the airport.
