In the afternoon of July 1, 1984, at Spring Lake, Alberta, Patrick Alois Frick went to the rescue of Dennis Labelle and the boy he was trying to save from drowning. Mr. Labelle had swam some distance with the youth and was seen floundering as the child struggled violently. They were about 15 metres from shore when Mr. Frick dove in to help. He took the youth and, keeping the boy's head above water, swam to the beach. He then swam back to the exhausted Mr. Labelle, keeping him afloat until help arrived in a boat. Both men clung to the boat for a few minutes to rest, then swam to shore.
Mr. Denis Labelle was awarded the Star of Courage for his action.
