James Clifford Foster, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
James Foster of Dorchester, Ontario, who was then 8 years of age, was instrumental in saving a small child from drowning in the Thames River near London, Ontario, on January 21, 1970. The two children were returning home from school together when the little girl started off to walk on the ice of the river. The young Foster boy warned her that she was in danger and moments later she fell through the ice into the water. The boy went at once to her rescue, crawling out on the surface of the ice until he could grasp her hands. James Foster pulled the child out of the water and both crawled to the river bank where others helped them to safety.
