Medal of Bravery
William Forbes and David and Ronald Calderwood removed a man from a burning helicopter which crashed in Edmonton on 20 August 1978. The man had been carrying out mosquito spraying when the helicopter hit high-tension lines and fell to the ground. Fire broke out in the rear and in the control panel and was spreading to the ground when Mr. Forbes and the Calderwood brothers, who had seen the crash, rushed to the scene. They found the pilot unconscious in the cockpit and bleeding profusely. At great risk they unfastened his seat belt and carried him off to safety. Moments later the wreckage was engulfed in flames.
