On 4 March 1976, Gail Flynn saved three children, all aged three, who had fallen through the ice at Kissinger Lake near her home. The children had ventured to a swimming float some fifty feet from shore. Making her way across the ice, Gail lifted one boy to the float and then seized one girl who lay unconscious in the water. She revived the child, then searched for the third whom she saw under the ice some fifteen feet away. Mrs. Flynn entered the water breaking the ice with her arms. When she had covered half the distance she dived under and swam to the child. Grasping her by the hand she brought her to the surface and applied artificial respiration. But for this action all three children would almost certainly have been drowned.
