Early on the evening of 2 September 1981, Louise Elliott, employed at the Coronation Nursing Home, saved a ninety-two-year old man from being struck by a train. The elderly resident was seen from more than four hundred metres away, standing on the railway track, unaware of a rapidly approaching train. In her desperate haste to outrun the train Mrs. Elliott fell twice on the wet grass, but she managed to seize the man by the arm and pull him away. The locomotive came roaring by as the two rolled down the incline.
