On December 9, 1990, Off. Parent of the La Prairie, Quebec, municipal police helped to rescue three members of a family from a burning apartment. As soon as he arrived on the scene, Off. Parent entered the ground-floor apartment through the master bedroom window. He found a man inside and brought him out, then moved further into the smoke-filled apartment and discovered a young girl whom he brought to the window. Despite the thick smoke, he went back for a young boy, whom he also succeeded in evacuating through the window. Overcome by the intensity of the smoke, Off. Parent was then forced to exit the building.
