On November 11, 1994, in Scarborough, Ontario, fourteen-year-old twin sisters Tara and Tammy Benn saved a young man from a gang attack. As the three teenagers left a high school basketball game, a group of youths suddenly began chasing the man until he fell to the ground. Seeing one of the pursuers draw a knife and stab him, Tammy Benn ran over and grabbed the attacker's arm. Tara joined in the struggle and the sisters prevented the assailant from continuing his attack. As others came to help, the gang members fled.
