In the mid-afternoon of 3 July 1980 Thomas Tedesco working on a farm at Windsor, Ontario, was told by a companion that fire had broken out in a neighbour's house. Rushing to the scene, he saw a sixty-four-year-old man unconscious about two metres from the front door. At great risk to his own life, he entered the burning house and dragged the victim out to the porch. At that moment a large picture window blew out, so that the rescuer's arms and back were severely burnt. Unfortunately, the victim died in hospital three weeks later.
