Gregory Stuart Cousineau, M.B.
Medal of Bravery
In Montreal, on July 12, 1972, 18-year-old Gregory Stuart Cousineau sustained serious burns when he tried to free the driver of a car which crashed and caught fire. Following a collision close to where he lived, Mr. Cousineau ran at once to the scene of the accident. While others helped the four passengers to safety he attempted to assist the driver who was pinned behind the steering wheel. Although the fire spread quickly and threatened the gasoline tank, the young man persisted in a rescue attempt until moments before the tank exploded. His efforts to save the driver failed but Mr. Cousineau gave a fine example of coolness and courage.
