On July 19, 1994, Miss Bings saved two women from drowning after the car in which she and three friends were travelling slid into the Birkenheard River near Mount-Currie, British Columbia. While the car was sinking, Miss Bings managed to get out and swim to shore. As soon as she realized that only one of the others had been able to follow her and was having difficulty, she jumped back into the glacial water and helped the friend reach the shore. She then swam back to the car, which was now submerged, and dove underwater. She managed to grab a second passenger and bring her to shore. Exhausted and suffering from hypothermia, Miss Bings was unable to return a third time for the last person, whose body was later removed from the recovered vehicle.
