On 22 March 1980, seventeen-year-old Edward Button lost his life after saving his younger brother during a fire which originated in the upstairs of the family house. As smoke and flames engulfed their attic bedroom Edward wakened his brother, carried him to the far end of the room and pushed him through the window on to the top roof. But burning curtains fell on him the moment he tried to escape. A neighbour helped his brother to reach safety.
