On January 11, 1991, in Cancun, Mexico, Mr. Brauer rescued a woman from certain drowning. While on the beach, Mr. Brauer heard screams and noticed a woman having difficulty in the deep water. He immediately started to swim towards the woman, who was quickly losing her strength, and was able to reach her despite the strong undertow. Struggling against the high surf, he blocked the waves coming from behind and began pushing the woman towards shore, holding her head above water. Exhausted by their slow progress, Mr. Brauer, nonetheless, finally succeeded in bringing the victim to shore.
