Medal of Bravery
Late in the afternoon of 29 May 1980, near Cobourg, Ontario, Edward Earl Bowman and Lorne Albert Simpson witnessed a head-on collision in which a pick-up truck caught fire. They found the driver slumped over on the passenger side and trapped between the seat and the dashboard. With complete disregard for their own safety they braved the intense heat and smoke in a combined effort to remove a man from the burning wreckage. Mr. Bowman and Mr. Simpson carried the victim some ten metres away only seconds before the car exploded. Without their prompt and courageous action the man would not have survived the accident.
