On 14 June 1980, Marc Boucher saved a man from drowning at Pointe-du-Chêne, New Brunswick. Following a few hours of sailing with four neighbours, the man climbed onto the wharf to tie up his boat while his crew remained in the cabin below. He lost consciousness, fell of the dock, struck his head on the stern of another boat and dropped from three metres into the water. One of his friends, Marc Boucher, heard some noises and climbed onto the pier. When he saw the boat line not secured, floating in the water, he realized the man's fate. He dived into the murky water and could not locate his companion but on his second attempt he swam under the stern of the other craft where he found the victim. At the surface the other friends assisted in hoisting the man on board and revived him by mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
