Bertrand Boucher, aged twenty-one, went to the aid of two policemen and a woman who had been wounded by a drunken man in the town on 27 August 1979. Mr. Boucher, when he heard the shots and saw the three crouching behind the police car, edged his way towards it. Seeing that one of the constables was bleeding profusely, he darted into a building and returned with a cloth with which to dress the wound. Then, following police instructions, he climbed into the car and at the risk of becoming the target of the gunman, called for reinforcements. When help came, the man surrendered his gun and the victims were taken to hospital.
