On June 29, 1993, Mr. Bolton pulled an unconscious woman from a burning car in Otonabee Township, near Peterborough, Ontario. Arriving at the scene of an accident, Mr. Bolton used a blanket to try to put out the flames covering the overturned vehicle. While another passer-by battled the fire with an extinguisher, he turned his attention to the unconscious driver who was suspended upside down, wedged behind the steering wheel. Mr. Bolton entered the smoke-filled car from the passenger side and, after several attempts to free her, managed to pull her out, moments before the car was completely engulfed in flames.
