Mrs. Benn disarmed an assailant who was attacking her 88-year-old neighbour on November 26, 1993, in Deseronto, Ontario. Hearing noises from the downstairs apartment, Mrs. Benn hurried to investigate and found a man stabbing her friend. Without concern for her own safety, she grabbed a pair of scissors from the man and a knife from the counter, then ran upstairs to call police. Mrs. Benn's quick-thinking and fearless actions saved her friend from further injury and resulted in the capture of the assailant.
