Early on the evening of 21 September 1980, Kevin Augustine of the Volunteer Fire Department of Big Cove, New Brunswick, single-handedly rescued a man from a burning prefabricated house. Though the Fire was raging out of control and he was not fully trained in the use of breathing apparatus, eighteen-year-old Kevin entered the building. He found the man unconscious on a sofa in the living-room and carried him to a window from which the two escaped before the flames completely engulfed the house. Unfortunately the victim later died from extensive burns.
