At the age of seventeen, Brian Webb rescued a schoolmate from a burning tent on a camping- ground near the town. Starting in the early hours of 11 May 1975, the fire flared up very quickly. Hearing his friend who was trapped in a sleeping bag, Brian ran to the scene, tore a hole in the burning canvas and removed him moments before the tent collapsed. Both young men were treated for burns.
