Robert Sadai showed uncommon heroism on August 4, 1986, when, disregarding the peril he himself faced and the injuries he had already sustained, he rescued a woman paralysed by shock from their blazing apartment building in Windsor, Ontario. Mr. Sadai encountered the woman transfixed before a window on the 2nd storey landing. Heavy smoke and flames precluded use of stairwells, so he tried to urge her out the window. Unsuccessful, he then smashed the window with his arm, receiving severe lacerations, grabbed the woman and thrust her out onto a ledge over the front door. He climbed out behind her and threw her down to a man waiting below. Only then did he jump to the ground himself. Because of his actions, Mr. Sadai suffered 3rd degree burns over 45% of his body.
