On January 19, 1986, on Highway 35 near Dixonville, Alberta, a traffic accident occurred which involved a semi-tractor trailer. The "semi" burst into flames on impact and rolled over onto its side. Gordon Tunke, who heard the crash from his home, rushed out to the accident scene to find the "semi'" driver standing dazed amidst burning debris, his clothes on fire. Mr. Tunke, neglecting his own safety and aware that the "semi" might explode momentarily, grabbed the victim, removed him from the fire and carried him to a nearby ditch where they fell into the snow, which Mr. Tunke used to extinguish the burning clothes.
