On June 3, 1995, Garry Boismier twice entered a burning apartment in Chatham, Ontario, to save the life of its lone occupant. After a young babysitter who had escaped the apartment with her two-year-old niece alerted him that a man was still inside, Mr. Boismier immediately rushed in through the smoke-filled hallway. Despite the intense heat and the flames shooting out of the kitchen door, he managed to reach the living room where he found the unconscious man lying on the floor. Unable to arouse the victim, Mr. Boismier grabbed him by the ankles and dragged him outside. The man regained consciousness and suddenly ran back in. Mr. Boismier raced after him and with the help of his brother-in-law was finally able to pull the disoriented victim outside to safety.
