Medal of Bravery
On August 16, 1996, Isabella Rowe and Raymond Bennett entered the circle of five hungry, ferocious husky dogs to perform a rescue on Legge Island, Labrador. Mrs. Rowe and her friend were berry picking when the dogs suddenly knocked the friend to the ground and began mauling and biting her. Mrs. Rowe tried to force the dogs to release their prey, first with a stick and stones then by pulling at them with her bare hands. Enraged, the animals turned on her, inflicting severe wounds. Meanwhile, Mr. Bennett had heard the screams from a nearby beach and raced to the scene. He grabbed a large stick and succeeded in beating the dogs off the women. He then managed to keep the circling animals at bay while helping the victims to the safety of their boat.
