ainman Larry Bernard Pulai rescued a child from the path of an oncoming train in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on May 20, 1987. As the locomotive they were riding rounded a curve, crewman Pulai, the train engineer and another crewman noticed a child on the tracks a short distance ahead. Realizing the train would not stop in time, both crewmen jumped out of the train and ran along opposite sides of the moving locomotive while the engineer put the train into a full-brake emergency application. Mr. Pulai was able to get ahead of the train, dart in front of the locomotive, snatch the transfixed child from the tracks and deposit the infant safely on the other side.
