On February 6, 1989, in Montcerf, Quebec, Pierre Paquette rescued a teenager from the basement of his burning home. Having been alerted to what was happening next door, Mr. Paquette managed, after several attempts, to break down the outside door to his neighbour's basement and make his way inside, but the smoke soon drove him out again. In spite of this, he went back in and, guided by a faint moaning, discovered the victim lying motionless on the basement floor and brought him to safety.
