On the afternoon of December 28, 1984, Brian George Eddy saved a man from drowning in Martin's Pond. Seeing that the man had fallen through the ice about sixty metres from shore, Brian Eddy grabbed a two-metre stick and ran towards the exhausted victim. The man was struggling to get himself out but the ice kept breaking under his weight. Without concern for his own safety, Brian Eddy crawled slowly on the thin ice to the open water, extended his reach with the stick and at great risk, managed to pull the victim out of the frigid water.
