Medal of Bravery
- Awarded on: July 31, 1989
- Invested on: December 11, 1989
Late in the afternoon of December 13, 1987, the heroism of Mr. Carol Guillemette, a family man of forty-eight at the time, saved two snowmobilers, who had fallen through the thin, frozen surface of Lake St. Matthew, Quebec, from drowning. One of the victims had managed to lie flat on the ice while the other had plunged into the water, encouraged him to hold onto the wood and pulled him towards the shore. When he was about six metres from land, he threw him a cable, which he and his two daughters used to pull the man out of the water. He then tossed the other victim a shovel to help him crawl, and guided him towards shore.
