Early in the morning of January 31, 1988, a neighbour noticed heavy smoke rising from a home in New Denmark, New Brunswick. Upon investigating, he saw flames through the living room window and left immediately in order to call for help. After contacting the sons of the owners of the house, he returned to the scene with a fire extinguisher. When he arrived he found Keith Jensen's pickup truck, its motor running, in the lane and the front door of the burning house wide open. The other son, who had also arrived by this time, tried to enter the burning building to find his brother, but was driven back by the intense heat and thick smoke. Keith Jensen lost his life in his attempt to save his parents; firefighters later found his body upstairs in what had been their bedroom.
