Firefighter Milovanovic risked his life to save that of a man trapped in a burning apartment on December 18, 1989 in Hamilton, Ontario. Hearing screams from within the apartment, Mr. Milovanovic broke down the door and, without waiting for a hose line, entered and crawled through the flaming living room to the bedroom, guided by the victim's calls for help. Finding the man on the floor, he began to pull him when the man pushed them both into the fire. Lying on his back, Mr. Milovanovic managed to drag the victim through the intense heat and smoke-filled living room to the doorway where other firefighters pulled them to safety.
