On December 22, 1991, Mr. Farrell prevented a man from committing suicide at the Christie Street Subway Station in Toronto, Ontario. After seeing a man leap onto the tracks and walk toward an oncoming train, Mr. Farrell followed him, tried to grab him, but was pushed away. He forcibly dragged the unstable man to the side of the tracks and, without releasing his grip, climbed back onto the platform. Unable to pull the resisting man along with him, Mr. Farrell nevertheless manoeuvred him under the platform to safety, just as the train sped by.
