In the early hours on November 15, 1991, near Stevensville, Ontario, Mr. Boutilier rescued a man whose tanker trailer had just crashed into a bridge abutment and burst into flames. Mr. Boutilier, the driver of the vehicle immediately behind the tanker, jumped out of his car and ran through the flames to reach the driver, who had been thrown from the cab. Assisted by another passer-by, Mr. Boutilier dragged the man farther from the wreck and extinguished the flames on his clothing as the nearby tanker burned out of control.
