Leslie Charles Armitage, M.B. Carl Douglas George, M.B. Medal of Bravery Early in the morning of December 19, 1988, Leslie Charles Armitage and Carl Douglas George risked their lives to rescue a woman from a burning mobile home outside Comox, British Columbia. Mr. Armitage discovered a fire in his residence and ran outside to get a fire extinguisher. When he returned, the flames were coming out the front door, trapping the woman inside. After hearing her cries for help, he re-entered the trailer only to be hit by a fireball and knocked unconscious. In the meantime, the woman had escaped through a window and Carl Douglas George had arrived on the scene. Mr. George radioed for help and, unsuccessful in his attempts to enter the trailer, made a hole in the door with a chain-saw and cleared a passage. He was able to squeeze through the narrow opening and, after three attempts, lifted the unconscious Mr. Armitage and brought him to safety.
