Late in the afternoon of October 29, 1988, in London, Ontario, Edward Douglas Slivinski saved a man from being struck by a train. Mr. Slivinski was driving near the railroad tracks when he noticed the man standing between the tracks in the path of an oncoming freight train. Mr. Slivinski stopped his truck, ran toward the man across four sets of tracks and, as the train came within about eight metres of them, Mr. Slivinski reached the man and pushed him to safety.
