On October 11, 1988 Dr. Brian Manns, a veterinarian, rescued a man from being gored to death by a buffalo on the Swan Lake Indian Reserve near Brandon, Manitoba. All of the herd had been inoculated except for one unco-operative bull. While trying to lasso him, the victim fell into the corral where the angry animal charged him and tossed him in the air, rendering him unconscious. Dr. Manns immediately jumped into the pen and dragged the victim to the side, where others managed to pull him under the fence to safety.
