Scott Cummings, Ken Guthrie, Darren Hooks and Tom McKain rescued a man and three children from the treacherous undertow at Station Beach, Kincardine, Ontario, on August 16, 1988, as Police Cst. Dave Quinn and ambulance attendant Greg Scott attempted to rescue a fifth member of the same swimming party. Through a co operative team effort, the young men brought the victims to safety. Mr. McKain passed a lifebuoy to Ken Guthrie who took the first child from Mr. Hooks and brought him to shore. Mr. Hooks then helped Mr. Cummings bring in the second child while Mr. McKain swam out to the man and the third child. All four young men helped in bringing the man to shore as Mr. McKain rescued the panicking third child. Police Cst. Quinn and ambulance attendant Scott, returning from a previous rescue effort, attempted to locate the second man who was being carried out farther from shore. Unfortunately, they were prevented from doing so by the rough waters and only later were able to retrieve his body.
